With 37,413 new cases annually and 16,865 deaths, colorectal cancer is the third most common cancer in France, after prostate and breast cancer. According to the National Cancer Institute (INCa), “it usually originates from an adenomatous polyp, also called an adenoma. Among the different types of adenomatous polyps, villous adenomas (5% of polyps) present the greatest risk of developing into cancer.” The main risk factor is lifestyle (poor diet, excessive consumption of processed meats, smoking, lack of exercise).
