The impact was immense. Mark had never heard of this type of disease. He simply believed he was adopting a healthier lifestyle, but he discovered that his weight loss wasn’t necessarily due to his new habits, but to something more serious.
In October, he underwent a major, life-saving operation: 15 centimeters of his esophagus were removed, along with a tumor the size of a strawberry. Surgeons then recreated a passageway using his large intestine. A complex surgical procedure and a huge relief.
Today, a message of both warning and hope.
After several rounds of chemotherapy, Mark is in remission. He will need regular checkups for the next five years. But his outlook on life has changed dramatically.
His message? Never ignore a physical change or an unusual sensation, no matter how slight. Listen to your body, persevere if your intuition tells you something is wrong, and above all, don’t let appearances or statistics distract you from your feelings.
