Ingredients
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 tsp paprika
1/2 tsp garlic powder
2 large onions, cut into 1/2-inch thick rings
4 oz mozzarella sticks or string cheese, cut to fit inside onion rings
Salt & black pepper, to taste
2 large eggs, beaten
1–2 cups breadcrumbs (panko for extra crunch)
Vegetable oil, for frying
Optional: marinara sauce for dipping
Instructions
Prep the onion rings:
Carefully separate onion layers into individual rings.
Place a piece of mozzarella inside each ring and gently press the onion around it to enclose the cheese.
Set up breading stations:
In one bowl, mix flour, paprika, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
Place beaten eggs in a second bowl.
Place breadcrumbs in a third bowl.
Coat the rings:
Dredge each stuffed ring in flour, then dip in egg, and finally coat with breadcrumbs.
For extra crispiness, double-dip in egg and breadcrumbs.
Fry the rings:
Heat about 1–2 inches of vegetable oil in a deep skillet or pot to 350°F (175°C).
Fry rings in batches 2–3 minutes per side until golden brown and cheese is melted. Drain on paper towels.
Serve:
Serve immediately with marinara or your favorite dipping sauce.
💡 Tip: For a lighter version, bake at 425°F (220°C) for 12–15 minutes, flipping halfway, until golden and crisp.
I can also create an air-fryer version that keeps the mozzarella gooey while reducing oil. Do you want me to do that?
