Rather than throwing them away, put them aside and perhaps organize a reminiscing afternoon with older family members. They can identify faces, share anecdotes, and thus pass on a part of your family history that you may not have known.
Why it’s important to choose carefully
After a funeral, the desire to “make space” can be a way to turn the page or ease the grief. But some mementos, however small, can become touchstones in moments of nostalgia.
Don’t force yourself to sort through everything immediately. Give it some time, and keep close at hand what seems precious to you, even if it seems insignificant now.
