sudden swelling of only one leg
pain or tenderness, often starting in the calf
skin that is red or warm to the touch
DVT is potentially life-threatening because the clot can break off and travel to the lungs (pulmonary embolism). Urgent medical intervention is needed.
4. Congestive heart failure (CHF)
When the heart does not pump effectively, pressure in the veins increases and swelling and visible veins appear – often on the neck, arms or legs.
Other signs:
shortness of breath, especially with exertion or when lying down
chronic fatigue and weakness
swelling of the ankles, feet, or legs
CHF requires continued medical monitoring. If visible veins are accompanied by symptoms of heart failure, see a doctor.
